Dear Stephen,

Happy New Year! And, welcome to Food Entrepreneur eZine (FE).

After fifteen years of publication (4 editions), I received a 4-Star rating from a reviewer on Amazon.com for the book: From Kitchen to Market. This is a first! All the other ratings have been 5-Star. See the comment in the "FAN MAIL" below for more from the reviewer.

A review of "click-throughs" for past issues of FE reveals that most readers are very interested in labelling and insurance subjects, and mini- case studies. We will endeavor to have more of these in future issues.

I invite you to submit articles for publication in future issues of FE. Topics are welcomed that impact almost any aspect of specialty food marketing. We will be happy to help.

In this issue:

1. Notes and Comment -

A -FE continues its "Mini Case History" and discussion with Dancing Deer Baking Company CEO Trish Karter. Last month, we commented on her $20,000 investment that is expected to yield 2007 annual sales of $10 million in just 12 years. See "A Specialty Food Marketing Mini-Case Study" below for more.

B - Have a look here for the Call for Entries for the 2007 Clear Choice Awards for glass design.

2. Articles about food labelling from two industry experts.

3. Specialty Food Marketing Resources - Our resource listing is up and running again.

4. Liability insurance - an article about the government's response to recent E Coli outbreak.

We invite and welcome your comments. Let's work together to learn ways of succeeding in specialty food marketing. Stay tuned...

See you in San Francisco at the 32nd Winter Fancy Food Show - 21-23 Janary. [For more about the show, please click here.]

Wishing you great profits!

Steve

- "Minority Certified." Many so-designated firms can get an edge. What does this mean to you? Please note: All of the so-called "minority business directors" with whom I have tried to be in contact have yet to return my calls. More later...

- Office Management - Ideas about products, software and service requirements.

On The Menu's Julie Bush offers nutritional analysis, labeling and marketing services, and comments on FDA labeling requirements.

This month, she discusses the FDA regulations covering a "simplified label."

She notes: "It?s time to set our New Year?s resolutions. Many of us will want to simplify our lives. Unfortunately, the sentiment is quickly forgotten by the time February rolls around. If not your life, your food labels might as well be simplified."

Dancing Deer Baking Company CEO Trish Karter answers pressing FE questions:

1. How do you define success?

2. Are you successful?

3. If so, how long did it take?

4. How much did it cost?

Click here to read what Trish has to say about being "comfortable with risk, resilient in the face of challenging circumstances, unreasonably optimistic about the future and instinctively inclined to happily put two feet on the ground every morning," as requirements for entrepreneurial success.
